There's some crazy 1984 stuff going on. Check these links to official State Department/Department of Defense stock footage on the Wikileaks story. Please forward to other people who may be interested in using this footage as part of alt.news documentary projects, editors mixing Wikileaks-related/freedom of the press/freedom of speech videos, etc.

FOCUS:
It's long but It has her saying that widely quoted bit about 'the cables showing that diplomats are doing their jobs' which, of course, is going to get increasingly ironic when the remaining 249,000 of the roughly quarter million are released, and we see the full scope of "what their jobs" actually include. DNA collection included. Yuk.

Here is the subheadlines from the section of the official press briefing transcript titled "Wikileaks":
Secretary Clinton Made a Number of Calls Over the Weekend / Will Continue Diplomatic Outreach / Will Not Talk About Any Particular Cable / Policies are Set Here in Washington / Sharing of Information Across Government Agencies / Digitalization of Information / Value the Perspective Diplomats Provide / Working Group / Ongoing Investigation / Information was Stolen / This is a Crime / Will Hold the People Responsible Accountable / Reviewed Who Has Access to Documents and the Networks / Letter from Legal Adviser Harold Koh / Mr. Assange/ Conversations with News Organizations / We Decry This Release / Release has Put Lives at Risk

Video of United States Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, doing post-Cablegate/Wikileaks damage control, 30 Nov 2010

EXCERPT:
Now, I've heard the impact of these releases on our foreign policy described as a meltdown, as a game-changer, and so on. I think -- I think those descriptions are fairly significantly overwrought. The fact is, governments deal with the United States because it's in their interest, not because they like us, not because they trust us, and not because they believe we can keep secrets. Many governments -- some governments deal with us because they fear us, some because they respect us, most because they need us. We are still essentially, as has been said before, the indispensable nation.

Tip for getting hold of more Official Stock Footage

Source of this video and more ready-for-remix Pentagon video (100% legal to use as it's federally-produced and always therefore copyright-free. Just credit the DoD or whatever the specific media suggests and your legal obligations are complete: http://www.pentagonchannel.mil/

HOW TO DOWNLOAD OTHER VIDEOS FROM THE SITE:

If you go to the http://www.pentagonchannel.mil/ website, you see only embedded videos.

I was finding the direct video links by clicking on the RSS feed link from within whatever section I was in (eg. any of the navigation links in the left column "Briefings/Speeches" for the Clinton video, and "This Week in the Pentagon" for the Gates video)

Then, in the RSS file, under the video titles, I would click on the file name (there were usually three) with the biggest file size. Then, I was marking-up the URL (as given in examples above) as a link in a local HTML page and opening that in a browser, so it could be Save As-ed, with a right mouse click, to the desktop.

Free FLV extractors such as RealPlayer Downloader (bundled with RealPlayer) will also extract the unprotected *.flv files. These can then be edited without conversion in most freeware/iWare video editing softwares. Remix Your Universe.
