Pittsburgh (unreleased)

I wrote this song after getting back from the Pittsburgh G-20, held between September 24th-25th, 2009, where I was reporting for Indymedia, home of quality monkey journalism.

Final version of lyrics: Friday, October 9th, 2009

Pittsburgh (unreleased)

Above: Performance at St. Cloud University, 21 October 2009

There are so many questions I want to ask you
But I can’t fight through all the lies
None of them are yours
And none of them are mine

The world has taken all our words to hide
The dictionaries are committing suicide
I’m running for shelter with a blank book
And an inkwell filled with hope and pepper spray

Because in this world of snakes and sharks
Where police dogs snap and snarl and bark
In this world of dinosaurs and crocodiles—
Ninja monkeys make me smile

They put checkpoints on our roads
To create barriers in our minds
But ended up introducing contempt
For limits of any kind

There’s one question I want to ask you
But it’s got lost in all their rage
Can I take your hand until we both learn
To dance on the same page?

Because in this world of snakes and sharks
Where police dogs snap and snarl and bark
In this world of dinosaurs and crocodiles—
Ninja monkeys make me smile
