Snapshots: Cabin Ceramics, Cabin Canines

This weekend, it was another road trip to a Wisconsin cabin to make the most of the summer while it's here. The weather was excellent, and we entertained ourselves digging a natural wood fire kiln and firing ceramics, canoeing, and relaxing. Meanwhile, the Roo Dog spent a lot of time chasing sticks and swimming. Images taken with a Motorola Razr V3xx camera phone.

A real Midwestern pot smoker :-)
Above: Potter Amy and her husband Josh came up for the weekend. Amy used the firepit to fire some Raku-style pottery.

Above: Pots and tea light holders being heated around the firing before being buried in the coals.
Above: The ceramics after firing.

Above: The gradiations from black, through white, to clay colored, are dependent on placement in the fire. The black areas were buried, the white areas were against hot coals, and the reddish areas were exposed in the air.
Above: Getting the fire really hot after the ceramics were buried.

Above: Once he gets the stick, Roo is a little hesitant to give it up.

Above: It's all about the prize.
Above: Roo looks worried, but really he's not. You're just anthropomorphizing him.

Above: Roo might run up to the end of the dock with you as you dive off but he still slams on the paw brakes right at the end. Soon, very soon....

General Fun & Sun
Above: Another beautiful Wisconsin sunset.

Above: Dunk enjoys the beginning of the sunset.

Above: One of our friends who bailed on the trip because of weather concerns had to deal with several subsequent tormenting camera phone images over the weekend -- of blue skies, people relaxing in the water, and us standing with umbrellas under perfectly sunny skies. Meanwhile, back in the Twin Cities, there was rain and clouds all weekend.
Above: Josh mugs for the camera while Dunk laughs. Sadly, we found out on our return to the Twin Cities that the friend we were tormenting with images doesn't have a camera phone that can receive images. We still had fun sending them in any case.
