multimedia blog Snapshots: Lightning in a Jar Nigel Parry, Saturday, August 11th, 2007 On August 11th, one of a series of heavy storms hit the Saint Paul area. Trees and power lines came down, in 70-80 mile an hour winds, across the metro areas and beyond. During the weekend, more than 250,000 homes in Minnesota lost power. The Associated Press reported that "Xcel [Minnesota's energy company] says Saturday's storm caused some of the worst damage to the utility's distribution system in several years." The hardest-hit areas were the Como Park area of St. Paul, as well as Edina, Eden Prairie and Bloomington. Lightning was coming in waves and was surprisingly easy to capture on film due to its frequency. Images taken with a Motorola Razr V3xx camera phone.
