The minpin formerly known as "The New Roo" was finally named "Jazzer". In Arabic, Jazzer is "carrot". As we're in Harlem, it also works as "Jazz". When his hip hop career starts, he'll be known as "D.J. Jazzy Jazzer". Conveniently themed with this blog entry, a friend told me an Arabic proverb last week: al-haya zay al-jazzer: yom bi idak, yom bi teasak ("Life is like a carrot: one day it's in your hand, one day it's in your ass.") For the Roo Dog, the new arrival is certainly a mixed blessing!

So it has been a really shitty year all round.

While working 24/7 managing Gaza news coverage in late June and early July, Israel opened up a second front against Lebanon on July 12th, necessitating the launch of a new dedicated site, Electronic Lebanon.
"Israel stole my summer!" was the cry among many activists. After two months of that it was time to wind it down, but it's been non-stop work since then, including some last minute rescue work at the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival to make sure that the programs and posters arrived on time.
The Roo Dog, cheated from several weeks of long walks during the worst of it, needed some Christmas compensation. His breeder, Angela, had a litter from Roo's sister. Both dogs are miniature pinschers ("minpins") and more info about these little guys can be found in the blog entry "Roo of all Evil"
All in all, it was the perfect time to expand the pack and focus on something a little lighter as the holidays approached...
