Snapshots: Roo Dog Learns to Swim

The Roo Dog — one of the truly decent creatures I've met on this planet — has always had a deep fear of water. On June 9th, some friends and I took the Roo on a canoe trip down the Saint Croix river, where graduated sandbars and an abundance of sticks slowly coaxed the Roo into the water. After that, there was no stopping the Roo Fish, who will be three years old in August. Whether you threw a stick for him or not, the little guy couldn't keep out the water. The following images, taken with a Motorola Razr V3xx camera phone, are from June 13th, on a beach on the Mississippi river in Saint Paul.

Above: A Saint Paul paddle boat cruises past.

Above: It's all about the sticks. Specifically: chasing, chewing, burying, and digging them up.
Above: Sandy, but who cares when you're having this much fun?

Above: No stick in sight, don't need an excuse to swim any more.

Above: Waves from speedboats still freak the Roo out.
